Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez hailed his win at Misano on Sunday as the ideal comeback following his recent disappointment at Silverstone.

Marquez slipped to second place in the title race behind Andrea Dovizioso two weeks ago after an engine failure saw him limp out of the British round of the championship

The Repsol Honda rider though refused to let his misfortune in Britain get him down this weekend as he pulled off a risky pass of race leader Danilo Petrucci on the final lap to secure the win.

The result leaves Marquez tied for the lead with Dovizioso on 199 points after the Italian managed to finish in third place.

“After the last race I was disappointed but it was important to come back strong and for that reason I took a lot of risks this weekend because we know that Misano normally is a circuit that I am struggling a lot,” said Marquez.

“Now it’s incredible, this championship is incredible and you never know what will happen. It was so difficult before the race because after the Moto3 and Moto2 race there were many crashes from the top guys in the championship.

“It’s quite difficult to go out because you know that you need to finish the race. I knew that if I crashed for some reason and Dovi finished second or third, it will be so difficult, the championship, but in the end you need to understand or manage this kind of pressure.

“Honestly I was disappointed and it was difficult after the Silverstone race because it was difficult to get that small advantage, but this gives to me the motivation and a good feeling this weekend to try to come back.”

With five rounds left in the championship, Marquez said he expects the title race to go right down to the wire.

“Ducati is strong in every circuit and it will be a tight and nice fight until the end.

“But also (Maverick) Vinales, we cannot forget him because he is only 16 points behind and looks like he has a good pace; even on wet, when normally he struggles a lot more, he finished fourth,” Marquez added.
