Gor Mahia head coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira says the the depth of his squad will come in handy this season in their aim to reclaim the Kenyan Premier League trophy from Tusker FC.

K’Ogalo lead the standings with nine points off four matches and the tactician knows consistency will be key if they will achieve their target.

“This year we have a very good squad with quality. There is so much competition in the squad and everyone wants to play. This is a good problem for me. In this season, this will be something important for us,” the Brazilian tactician noted.

“Like against Homeboyz Meddie came off the bench to score, maybe another time another player will come off the bench and do something special. It is something good,” he added.

Gor Mahia won 1-0 against Homeboyz with Kagere scoring the lone goal, a result that was important for the team especially after losing 2-1 to Western Stima prior.

“It was important because in this club if you lose two matches in a row, there is so much pressure and confidence is affected. It was very good for us to get that win in a very tough match,” he added.

He has however cautioned his players not to let their feet off the gas peddles, pointing out the competitiveness coming in with an 18-team league this season. He says most of the teams have shown hunger to win the title and his charges have to ensure they are on their best game.

“It is tough; we have seen how Bandari, AFC Leopards and Ulinzi have started the season. It is not going to be easy but our ambition remains the same, to win the trophy,” he noted.

Gor’s next assignment will be against Sony Sugar on Saturday in Kisumu.
