Rwandese midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza will miss Gor Mahia’s clash with Zoo Kericho on Saturday at Moi Stadium in Kisumu after picking up a thigh injury in training.

Mugiraneza has clocked full minutes in both of K’Ogalo’s competitive matches this season and scored in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks.

In his place, coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira has summoned the combative Collins Okoth as they look for their second win of the season. Mugiraneza has been a core figure in the side but captain Musa Mohammed is confident that despite his absence, Gor will cope.

“Though he has been an important member of the team, I believe we can cope in his absence. We have a very good squad with a lot of depth and I know there will be an equally good replacement for him,” Mohammed said.

The Rwandese was deployed as an attacking midfielder in the two matches but against Sharks last weekend dropped to the deeper role later in the second half. In his absence, Ferreira might look on to Francis Kahata to play the offensive role while he maintains the option of Okoth in case of a defensive need.

The 15-time league champions are not taking Zoo lightly with the new comers having matched Posta Rangers toe to toe in their opening match last weekend before losing 1-0 with a late second half goal.

“We cannot underrate them because they merit to be in the league and that shows they are a good side. But we have ambitions as well and we want to keep our good run. Playing in Kisumu is always great and noting the kind of support we enjoy there, we are in for a win,” Mohammed added.
